What are the different types of ADHD?

There are currently 3 subtypes of ADHD - Inattentive, Hyperactive/Impulsive, and a combination of the two. The Inattentive type of ADHD is what we used to refer to as ADD.

  • If you have ADHD Hyperactive/Impulsive type you may struggle with fidgeting, experience feelings of restlessness, talk excessively, find it difficult to wait your turn, or often interrupt others.

  • If you have ADHD Inattentive type you may struggle with paying close attention to details or making careless mistakes, find it difficult to sustain attention, are often unable to start or finish tasks, often forget or lose things, or are disorganized.

  • If you have ADHD Combined Presentation you may find that you experience challenges associated with being both hyperactive/impulsive and inattentive.

The Adult ADHD Assessment Process

Bluebird Psychology currently offers ADHD testing that can be done in-person in Calgary or virtually throughout Alberta. The assessment includes a comprehensive interview that covers your medical history, learning history, and symptoms. Following this interview, you will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires. Someone of your choosing, such as a partner, spouse, friend, or close colleague, will also be asked to complete a questionnaire. A feedback meeting will be booked following completion of the assessment to review the results and you will receive a comprehensive written report that can help with treatment planning.

The cost of an Adult ADHD is $1,430 and can be paid in full at the first session or split over two payments.

*Some post-secondary programs require cognitive testing as part of the ADHD assessment process in order to provide accommodations. If you require cognitive testing, please contact us prior to booking.
